Auditions Now Open – Dad's Army
The Charity Players are pleased to announce auditions for our upcoming production of Dad's Army, taking place this October in Northampton.
This stage production features three classic episodes from the much-loved BBC comedy series.
Episodes included
- The Deadly Attachment – featuring the famous line "Don't tell him Pike!" when the Home Guard capture a German U-boat captain.
- Mum's Army – where the platoon attempt to form a women's Home Guard section.
- The Godiva Affair – preparations for the town's annual carnival lead to Morris dancing and plenty of chaos.
Roles available
There are 11 male roles (with two actors doubling parts) and 8 female roles. All parts except Captain Mainwaring are relatively small, making this a great ensemble show.
There will also be a little marching and drill as part of the Home Guard scenes.

Every production is different, but future audition listings may include principal roles, supporting parts, ensemble opportunities and off-stage production roles.
Principal roles
Lead characters with larger performance responsibilities and a strong presence within the production.
Ensemble
Important group roles that help bring energy, atmosphere and movement to the show where required.
Supporting roles
Character parts that help drive the story and often add humour, contrast, pace or dramatic impact.
Backstage support
Not every production role is on stage. We are also grateful for help with the practical side of putting on a show.

Do I need experience?
Not necessarily. Some productions may suit experienced performers, while others may be open to people who are new to amateur theatre. We are always happy to welcome new members who are interested in getting involved.
Do you only need actors?
No. Alongside cast members we often need people to help backstage with costumes, props, set build, lighting, sound, hair and make-up, front of house and general production support.
Will every production have auditions?
Not always in the same way. Some productions may involve formal auditions for specific roles, while others may be cast more informally depending on the type of show and the roles required.
