Answers
Who are The Charity Players?
The Charity Players are a Northampton-based amateur community theatre group founded in 1993. We produce annual pantomimes and a range of live performances including family shows, adult comedies, thrillers and murder mystery plays, raising money for local charities. Since our founding, we have raised over £150,000 for good causes.
Where do you rehearse and perform?
Our members come from across Northamptonshire. Rehearsals and performances take place at Saint Albans Church Hall, Mayfield Road, Northampton, NN3 2RE. Full venue details are confirmed on each production page.
When are rehearsals?
Drama rehearsals are held on Monday evenings (8:00pm–9:30pm) and Wednesday evenings (7:30pm–9:30pm). During pantomime production periods, we may also rehearse on selected Sundays. Our choir meets on Mondays from 7:00pm–8:00pm.
How can I join The Charity Players?
Email us or message us on Facebook and tell us a little about yourself (for example your interests and any previous experience). We’ll then invite you along to a rehearsal evening so you can meet the group and see how we work.
Do I need to audition to join?
No formal audition is required to become part of the group. For specific productions, we may hold casting auditions when selecting roles.
Do I need experience to take part?
No. We welcome enthusiastic people who want to learn and be part of a supportive group.
What commitment do you expect from members?
We’re a friendly group, but we rehearse for live performances—so we ask that anyone getting involved is genuinely interested and able to commit during production periods.
Can I help if I do not want to perform?
Yes. We need volunteers for costumes, props, set building, lighting, sound, and front of house.
What type of shows do The Charity Players perform?
The Charity Players perform a variety of productions including comedy plays, musical theatre and family shows. Productions range from classic British comedies such as Alan Ayckbourn plays to seasonal musical entertainment and charity fundraising events.
