The Anniversary

A black comedy by Bill MacIlwraith and directed by Paul Brennecke

It’s that time of year again. Since Dad died, Mum, holds an annual celebration / remembrance ‘get together’ for her late husband and herself along with her three sons

Tom is the youngest brother and is the stronger one of the three and is bringing his fiancée, Shirley, home for the first time to this annual ritual that is orchestrated by his widowed, scalpel-tongued, deviously possessive mother. Of Tom's brothers and co-workers in the ‘shoddy’ family building business, Terry is the weaker brother and is married to Karen who dreads this day every year as she too is a target of mum’s tongue but is devoted to Terry and remains faithful by his side. Henry is the eldest brother, and he still lives at home with Mum. He is a considerate, gentle chap.

The 'mother-in-law from hell' who has every member of her family wrapped around her little finger, and can normally make them do whatever she wants, regardless of their own needs. But this year, things start to unravel, and the tables begin to turn
